Doha: The Ministry of Municipality (MoM), represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department in collaboration with the Food Security Department, organized a workshop to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, which is observed annually on September 29. The event forms part of the MoM’s ongoing efforts to bolster food sustainability and emphasize the importance of minimizing food loss and waste.
According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop was attended by the Assistant Director of the MoM’s Agricultural Affairs Department, Adel Al Yafei, along with various officials and functionaries from the ministry. Experts from the Agricultural Affairs and Food Security Sector, representatives from Qatar University, and Hassad Food Company were also present.
The workshop centered on addressing the significant challenges associated with food loss and waste, discussing optimal practices to mitigate food loss during production, storage, distribution, and consumption phases.
The event featured a presentation by Dr. Mohamed Al Sar Awad from the Agricultural Affairs Department, focusing on agricultural losses awareness on World Food Loss and Waste Day. Additionally, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ghazal from the Food Security Department delivered a presentation on strategies and policies aimed at raising food waste awareness.
Participants highlighted the necessity of promoting a culture of consumption rationalization and reducing loss and waste, while also enhancing resource sustainability in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
