Kuwait-Qatar’s Rashed Nawaf and Mubarak Shannan battled hard in the tennis doubles final at the GCC Games on Thursday but failed to get past their Saudi Arabian opponents and settled for the silver medal.
The Qatari duo lost 5-7, 4-6 to Ammar Alhogbani and Saud Alhogbani in the title round.
Qatar won another medal on the day when the table tennis doubles team of Ahmed Khaleel Al Mohannadi and Abdul Wahab secured a bronze. They beat Bahrain’s Rashed Rashed and Sayed Ali Mahfoodh 11-4, 11-8, 12-10 in the playoff.
In handball, Qatar scored a 29-21 win over UAE, their second successive win in the competition. Qatar, who led 14-8 at the break, were helped by splendid seven-goal efforts from Anis Zouaoui and Amir Denguir. Mohammed Abdulmajeed scored four goals.
Qatar’s padel team also notched their second win in the competition, handing Saudi Arabia a 3-0 defeat. Abdulaziz Al Kuwari and Mohammed Abdulla won 6-0, 6-1 against Abdulrahman Alazzam and Sattam Alshahrani in the first match.
In the second match, Mohammed Al Kuwari and Abdulla Al Hijji prevailed against Hassan Al Abdullah and Musaeed Alazzam with a similar scoreline.
Jabor Al Mutawa and Mohammed Al Khanji wrapped up the contest with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Omar Al Thagib and Fahad Al Saad.
