Baghdad, The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, discussed with Qatari Ambassador Khalid bin Hamad Al-Sulaiti the strengthening of relations and joint cooperation between Erbil and Doha.
In the meeting, according to a statement by the presidency of the region, they discussed the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan region with the State of Qatar, the Iraqi political situation and its latest developments, in addition to the efforts to open a Qatari general consulate in Erbil in the future, Qatari investment opportunities in the Kurdistan region and the preparations that Qatar is taking to host the FIFA World Cup. 2022.
The two sides affirmed the desire of Qatar and the Kurdistan Region to further strengthen relations and joint cooperation between them and to prepare the appropriate ground for Qatari investments in various sectors and fields in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and the importance of direct flights by Qatar Airways to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of Iraqi security and political stability for the entire region, and the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan region with neighboring countries and countries in the region.
