Doha: HE National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Chairperson Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah engaged in discussions with HE Director General of Al Jazeera Media Network Sheikh Nasser bin Faisal bin Khalifa Al-Thani on Thursday, focusing on the promotion of human rights.

According to Qatar News Agency, the talks took place on the sidelines of an international conference dedicated to the protection of journalists in armed conflicts. This conference is a joint effort by the NHRC and the Al Jazeera Public Liberties and Human Rights Center. A significant part of the agenda was the cooperation between the NHRC and Al Jazeera Network, with special attention to press freedom, journalist safety in conflict zones, and the media’s role in advancing human rights.

The discussions also covered potential joint initiatives such as workshops and training programs aimed at enhancing media capacity in human rights reporting.

In a related meeting, HE Al Attiyah also conferred with HE Human Rights Commissioner of the Republic of Tajikistan, Umed Bobozoda, to discuss collaborations in human rights, focusing on press freedom and the safety of journalists.
