Oman and Iraq Secure Victories in Gulf Cup U-20 Opener

Abha: The Omani national team defeated their Egyptian counterpart 2-0 in the first round of the Gulf Cup U-20 Football Championship, currently being held in Abha, Saudi Arabia. Hossam Al Adad and Ahmed Salem scored for the Omani national team in the 8th and 26th minutes. In the second match, the Iraqi national team began their journey in the tournament with a 1-0 victory over the Bahraini team, scored by Falih Hassan in the 52nd minute.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari national team will play their second match against Yemen on Sunday at Damac Stadium in the second round. They will conclude their matches against the Saudi national team on September 3 at Prince Sultan Sports City Stadium, while Saudi Arabia will face Kuwait in the second match of the same round.

The tournament features eight teams: Qatar, Saudi Arabia (host), Iraq, Kuwait, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, and Egypt. Egypt’s participation comes at the invitation of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Federation following the UAE’s withdrawal. The teams have been divided into two groups. The first group includes Qatar, Saudi Arabia (host), and Yemen, while the second group includes Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Egypt. The tournament matches are held at Prince Sultan Sports City and Damac Stadiums. The semi-final matches will be held on September 7, and the competition will conclude on September 10.
