Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed to grant members of our Olympic team a residential plot of land and a continuous monthly stipend.

A statement from his media office said that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received, this Sunday morning, the delegation of the Olympic football team, after its return to the capital, Baghdad, carrying with it the qualification card for the 2024 Paris Olympics, which will be held next July.

According to the statement, Al-Sudani congratulated the achievement achieved by the champion players of our national team under the supervision of their coaching staff, a victory that reflects the players’ keenness and national responsibility towards their people and their country.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed that the team members be granted residential plots of land and a continuous monthly stipend, in accordance with the Law on Granting Athletes and Pioneers No. 6 of 2013, as well as honoring them with an amount of 10 million dinars.

He also di
rected to honor the champion weightlifter, Ali Ammar Yusser, who qualified for the Paris Olympics, just like the players of the Olympic football team.

The reception was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, and a number of Members of the Sports and Youth Committee in the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, and the President and members of the Iraqi Football Federation.

The Prime Minister confirmed that this achievement was achieved thanks to your efforts, through which you proved that you are worthy of the responsibility. It is a great victory for Iraq and confirmation of the victories achieved in all fields.

He said: We defeated terrorism, and today we are victorious for construction, services and foreign relations, and we are victorious by achieving stability, and now our victory comes in the field of sports.

He addressed the team members by saying: You were able, just as the Iraqi teams were able, to unite all the Iraqis, who stood to encourage the te
am.

He added: We achieved victory and qualified for the Paris Olympics for the sixth time, which is a great achievement that confirms that Iraqi football has returned with strength.

He praised the great role of the president and members of the federation for their success in managing the football sports scene over the past period.

He pointed out that the player does not represent himself, but rather represents, within the green rectangle, all of Iraq.

Al-Sudani stressed that the government’s support for the sports sector is not a blessing or a favour, and sport has today become a political, social and economic interest, and part of the state’s entity and existence.

He said: We are ready to go with you to the fullest extent of support, and this is the government’s duty towards all sports.

He added: We do not want to be present in Paris as a number, but rather we want an active sporting presence competing for medals.

He explained: We have players in all sports who represent promising projects to emerge a
s great players, at the level of the region and Asia, and they have potential and determination.

He said that Iraq is the only Arab country in Asia representing football in the Olympics, and it is a responsibility you are worthy of.
