Police in Kosovo announced the killing of a policeman and the injury of another during an armed attack on a patrol near the border with Serbia.

“As soon as they arrived in the vicinity of the place where the blockade was reported, the police units were attacked from several different positions with an arsenal of firearms, including hand grenades and shoulder-fired missiles,” police said in a statement.

“At this moment, gunfire with various caliber firearms against our police is still ongoing,” Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said in a post on Facebook, describing the incident as terrorist action.

“The attackers are professionals wearing masks and heavily armed,” he added.
