The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan, General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, met the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, who is currently visiting Sudan.
Bathily said in a press statement that his visit to Sudan comes within the framework of the United Nations’ efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, noting that the visit also comes in the wake of the implementation of the ceasefire agreement currently in effect, which was recently signed in Libya.
He added that there is an urgent need to unify the Libyan military and security institutions in order to establish peace and stability, indicating that this process requires the concerted efforts of Libya’s neighboring countries such as Sudan, Chad and Niger.
He said that the UN mission is looking forward to the cooperation of Libya’s neighboring countries in order to help address the situation in this country, given that stability in it represents an extension of stability to all neighboring countries.
He called on the neighboring countries of Libya to make collective efforts to monitor and secure its borders so that it would not be a haven for outlaw groups, terrorist groups and illegal immigration, in order to enhance peace and stability in the region.
