HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani sent a written message to HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, extending an invitation to His Excellency to attend the first-ever GCC-Brazilian Ministerial Meeting in September in Doha.
The State of Qatar is the current chair of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
HE Secretary-General of the GCC, Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi delivered the message during a meeting with HE Vieira in the capital Brasilia.
HE Al Budaiwi said the invitation expresses the GCC’s desire to strengthen strategic relations with the Federative Republic of Brazil in many areas that serve common interests and achieve great benefits for the peoples. It also comes within the framework of the GCC’s keenness to explore and open new horizons for cooperation on the one hand, and to strengthen their relations with world countries and organizations on the other hand.
During the meeting, the two sides d
iscussed the relations between the GCC and the Federative Republic of Brazil and ways to develop and strengthen them. They also tackled several topics of common interest, including the memorandum of understanding and the joint action plan between the two sides, which is expected to be signed during the ministerial meeting in September.
They also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, and issues of common concern, including the current crisis in the Gaza Strip and the serious violations caused by the Israeli occupation forces.
For his part, HE Vieira stressed his country’s keenness to develop its distinguished relations with the GCC and push them to broader horizons, and aspirations to respond to the invitation extended to him to attend the first GCC-Brazilian Ministerial Meeting. He stressed the many opportunities available to activate joint relations and achieve benefits from them at all levels.
