Doha: The State of Qatar, along with nine other countries, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has condemned the Israeli Kneet’s approval of a declaration to impose “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied West Bank.
According to Qatar News Agency, the coalition of nations and organizations views this move as a flagrant and unacceptable violation of international law. The condemnation highlights the breach of Security Council resolutions, including 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016), which reaffirm the invalidity of measures aiming to legitimize the occupation, particularly settlement activities in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
The statement from these entities underscores that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory. It asserts that the unilateral action by Israel has no legal effect and cannot alter the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territories, especially East Jerusalem, which remains an integral part of the Palestinian territory.
The coalition also warns that these Israeli actions could escalate tensions in the region, already heightened by Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, leading to a humanitarian crisis. The group calls on the international community, including the Security Council, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities. They urge urgent actions to halt illegal Israeli policies that threaten to impose a ‘fait accompli’ by force, undermining the prospects for a just and lasting peace and the viability of a two-state solution.
In conclusion, the coalition reaffirms its commitment to a two-state solution based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, advocating for the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
