Doha: Qatari newspapers on Monday highlighted the firm and shared commitment of the State of Qatar and Canada to expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries. The editorials focused on the official talks held yesterday at the Amiri Diwan between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE Prime Minister of Canada Dr. Mark Carney, during which the two leaders reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation and advance them to broader horizons across a wide range of fields, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, the dailies also praised the close and expanding cooperation between Doha and Ottawa in the areas of humanitarian aid and development assistance. They observed that Qatar’s humanitarian approach is closely aligned with Canada’s policy of promoting development and peace, giving rise to effective partnerships in addressing humanitarian crises, supporting affected communities, and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals at the international level. The editorials further stressed that the political convergence and continuous consultation between the two countries form a central pillar of their relationship, with both sides viewed as partners who share aligned positions on major international issues.
In its editorial titled “Qatar and Canada: A Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” Al-Raya emphasized that Qatari-Canadian relations have reached an advanced stage of maturity and development, driven by close coordination at the leadership level and a shared political will to further strengthen the strategic partnership across a number of priority areas. The newspaper noted that the exchange of high-level visits and sustained dialogue between the two sides has helped establish a balanced model of bilateral relations grounded in mutual respect, converging interests, and shared visions on regional and international issues. It added that this cooperation assumes added significance amid the rapid economic and political transformations taking place globally, at a time when both Doha and Ottawa play influential roles in promoting peace and development on the international stage.
Al-Raya further highlighted the affirmation by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani that his discussions with HE Prime Minister of Canada Dr. Mark Carney focused on avenues to enhance trade and economic cooperation and expand mutual investment opportunities, thereby reinforcing the strategic partnership in key and vital sectors. The newspaper concluded that Qatar views Canada as a strategic ally in North America, while Qatar represents a strategic partner for Canada in the Middle East and the Gulf region. It underscored that economic and investment cooperation constitutes a central pillar of Qatari-Canadian relations, with mutual investments recording notable growth across the energy, financial services, infrastructure, advanced technology, and education sectors.

The newspaper concluded that the exchange of visits at the highest levels — most notably HH the Amir visit to Canada in September 2024 — marked a new phase in bilateral relations and laid a solid foundation for strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
