Doha: With support of donors in Qatar, Qatar Charity has carried out a series of urgent humanitarian interventions in Pakistan, benefiting nearly 35,400 people affected by the recent floods that displaced more than 12,500 families and impacted over one million people across the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, as part of these relief efforts, Qatar Charity distributed 2,200 food baskets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces, reaching more than 15,400 people. Each basket is designed to meet the monthly nutritional needs of a family, and includes rice, flour, oil, and other essential food items.
In addition, in collaboration with Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Qatar Charity organized a four-day medical camp in Jhang and Muzaffargarh in Punjab. The camp provided free healthcare services to more than 16,500 flood-affected people, including cataract surgeries, medical consultations, eye examinations, laboratory tests, and the distribution of medicines and eyeglasses, ensuring comprehensive care for the most vulnerable.
Qatar Charity also partnered with UNICEF to distribute 500 hygiene kits to around 3,500 people, aimed at promoting personal hygiene and preventing the spread of diseases in flood-hit areas.
Qatar Charity’s humanitarian role was particularly notable during the 2022 floods, when it worked with the Qatar Fund for Development and other partners to assist more than 500,000 people, including Afghan refugees, in 18 regions across Pakistan. The response included distribution of 39,140 food baskets, 6,690 tents, and 5,000 hygiene kits.
