Qatar Charity Provides Critical Aid to Sudan Amid Ongoing Conflict

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) has announced its delivery of 5,635 tons of humanitarian aid to Sudan over the past two years, assisting approximately 1.75 million displaced individuals in the country’s safer regions.

According to Qatar News Agency, QC’s efforts include a comprehensive range of health interventions, such as supplying kidney dialysis machines, incubators for infants, and essential medicines to combat the cholera epidemic. These initiatives are part of QC’s sustained response to the prolonged humanitarian crisis in Sudan, which has focused on food security, health, non-food items, and water and sanitation needs for women and children.

Currently, QC field teams are actively distributing 2,500 food baskets and 230 tons of dates in various states, funded by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and executed in partnership with the Qatar Red Crescent. In Kassala, Al Qadarif, and Al Jazirah, QC is providing hot meals and essential supplies such as kitchen kits, water tanks, tents, and 16,500 ready-to-eat meals.

With support from the QFFD, QC has conducted three airlifts to deliver essential aid, including food, medicine, medical equipment, and shelter materials, to those most in need. The aid has been crucial in supporting Sudan’s strained healthcare system, particularly at Al Nau Hospital in Omdurman, where QC has also funded medical staff salaries due to the closure of numerous hospitals in Khartoum.

QC has further expanded its efforts by launching a mobile clinic project offering free medical services and medicine to refugees in Port Sudan, addressing the spread of infectious diseases in camps. This initiative operated for a month, reaching multiple camps and displacement areas.

In response to the Ministry of Health’s urgent appeal regarding the depletion of life-saving medicines for cancer and kidney failure patients, QC established an air bridge to deliver 62 tons of critical medications, benefiting around 8,000 patients.

Additionally, QC has facilitated the resumption of education through its Safe Return to School project, relocating displaced persons from schools in Port Sudan to allow educational activities to resume.
