Doha: Al-Raya has highlighted the recent approval by the Israeli Security Cabinet to annex parts of the occupied West Bank. The newspaper criticized the Israeli occupation authorities for continuing to evade legal obligations and defying international law by expanding settlements and appropriating land. This expansion occurs alongside the systematic targeting of Palestinians, ongoing restrictions, and their exposure to killing, displacement, and arbitrary arrest, while violations of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza persist.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Israeli Security Cabinet has approved a series of decisions aimed at altering the legal and civil landscape in the occupied West Bank, further consolidating Israeli control. Qatar, along with other Arab and Islamic countries, has strongly condemned Israel's actions, labeling them as illegal and aimed at imposing illegitimate sovereignty, entrenching settlements, and creating a new legal and administrative reality. This editorial emphasizes that these actions accelerate illegal annexation attempts and the displacement of the Palestinian people.
The newspaper further asserts that the occupying authorities are determined to usurp Palestinian rights guaranteed by international law, undermining international efforts to implement the two-state solution. Al-Raya describes the Israeli moves as an unprecedented escalation in annexation, colonization, and displacement plans, posing a threat to agreements signed between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel. The paper stresses that any infringement upon Islamic and Christian holy sites in Palestinian territories, particularly at Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque, is unacceptable. The occupation authorities are held responsible for attacks on holy sites, which are seen as attempts to ignite further conflict.
