Qatar Engages in Dialogue on Family Policies at Budapest Conference.

Budapest: The State of Qatar participated in the “Generations for a Competitive Future” conference held in Budapest, Hungary. HE Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani, led Qatar’s delegation to the event.

According to Qatar News Agency, the conference brought together experts, policymakers, and civil society figures from multiple countries to discuss family-supportive policies, the family’s essential role in building a strong and balanced society, and strategies to enhance its role in addressing future challenges. On the sidelines of the event, HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani met with Hungarian officials, including HE Minister of Culture and Innovation Balazs Hanko and HE Secretary of State for Families Dr. Zsofia Koncz. The discussions focused on family and child protection policies and empowering women in society.

During these meetings, the Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs highlighted Qatar’s ef
forts in strengthening the role of the family, emphasizing that the country prioritizes issues related to families, children, and women. She outlined the Ministry of Social Development and Family’s initiatives to achieve positive outcomes in these areas. She also noted Qatar’s decision to adopt the term “senior citizens” instead of “the elderly,” underscoring the significant status and role of this group in the family and society.

HE Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani further highlighted the importance of the bond between different generations within the Qatari family. She explained that grandparents serve as one of the main pillars of the family, reflecting Qatari values that emphasize strengthening relationships between new generations and senior citizens.
