Qatar Engages in Discussions on Israeli Practices at Arab Human Rights Session

Cairo: The State of Qatar participated actively in the 56th regular session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights, which commenced on Monday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo. Qatar was represented by Sara Abdullah Al Saadi, the Acting Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Qatar News Agency, the session also included the presence of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) of Qatar in an observer capacity, represented by HE Secretary-General of NHRC Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali. Representatives from government bodies concerned with human rights across member states, as well as relevant entities within the Arab joint action system, attended the session.

Key discussions during the session centered on Israeli violations and racist practices in the occupied Arab territories. Other focal points included issues concerning Arab prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons and the remains of Palestinian and Arab martyrs held by occupation authorities in ‘cemeteries of numbers.’ Additionally, the session approved the theme for the Arab Human Rights Day 2026, to be observed on March 16 annually.

The recommendations from the 56th regular session, chaired by HE Chairman of the Arab Permanent Committee for Human Rights Ambassador Talal Khaled Al-Mutairi, will be submitted to the 164th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, slated for next September, for further consideration and adoption.
