Qatar Engages in Strategic Dialogue at GCC-EU Joint Ministerial Meeting

Kuwait: The State of Qatar participated in the 29th joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU), held in Kuwait today. HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.

According to Qatar News Agency, in his address during the meeting, HE Al Muraikhi highlighted the robust model of cooperation between the GCC countries and the EU, which has been established over decades. This collaboration is maintained through regular Joint Ministerial Council meetings, providing a platform to enhance cooperation on political and security issues, combat terrorism, and address energy and cultural matters, thus strengthening the shared vision between the two parties.

HE Al Muraikhi stated that the agenda of the meeting included several important topics of mutual interest, underscoring the shared desire to boost cooperation, develop partnerships, and expand areas of joint action to meet strategic objectives, support stability, and promote sustainable development.

He further expressed Qatar’s approval of the initiation of negotiations for the Strategic Partnership Agreement. This agreement is viewed as a significant step towards long-term institutional cooperation, reflecting the aspirations of both sides to establish a balanced relationship founded on mutual interests, supporting shared security and prosperity.

Additionally, HE Al Muraikhi conveyed Qatar’s gratitude towards the GCC countries, the EU, and its member states for their solidarity and support against the aggression by Israel on September 9, which he described as a blatant violation of sovereignty and international norms.

HE Al Muraikhi also pointed to the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the “New York Declaration” on implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state. This declaration, issued by the High-Level International Conference on the Settlement of the Palestinian Question, marks a critical step reflecting broad international support for Palestinian rights.

He extended thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic for their efforts in facilitating the issuance and adoption of the “New York Declaration” by the UN General Assembly. Finally, HE Al Muraikhi welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by several EU member states, emphasizing the symbolic significance of this move and reaffirming that violence is not a solution to the Palestinian cause.
