Kuwait city: The State of Qatar actively participated in the GCC Ministerial Meetings hosted in Kuwait, focusing on enhancing regional digital infrastructure and cooperation in telecommunications and postal services. Leading the Qatari delegation was HE Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai.
According to Qatar News Agency, the 29th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Post and Telecommunications in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries addressed strategic topics aimed at developing joint digital infrastructure. Discussions included regulatory policies to support innovation and the advancement of communication and postal services for the benefit of GCC citizens.
The 9th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for e-Government concentrated on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and innovation within government services. Successful national experiences in building integrated digital systems were showcased as part of efforts to enhance public service quality.
Collaborating with the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), the ministerial meetings explored future cooperation in supporting digital transformation and empowering entrepreneurs. The organization’s role in fostering regional and international collaboration was highlighted, with a focus on developing shared digital infrastructure and unified e-services among member states.
Efforts were made to expand partnerships to improve the efficiency and integration of eGovernment services across borders. The meetings also delved into artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, seeking to harmonize efforts in establishing regulatory frameworks for their safe use in government sectors.
Participants underscored the significance of joint GCC initiatives in open data and governmental innovation, reinforcing the Gulf region’s role in developing a knowledge-based digital economy. The meetings adopted the minutes of the May 2025 meeting, which acknowledged Qatar’s contributions to the UN E-Government Survey 2024, enhancing the GCC’s global standing in eGovernment indicators.
These ministerial meetings, along with the GCC eGovernment Award, represent ongoing efforts to bolster regional digital integration. The aim is to create legislative and technological environments conducive to innovation, fostering sustainable economic and social development, and establishing the region as a digital transformation hub.
The meetings concluded with a pledge from GCC countries and the Digital Cooperation Organization to coordinate efforts in accelerating the digital economy and advancing technological innovation. This commitment aims to promote regional integration and develop a progressive digital future supportive of sustainable development and economic prosperity.
HE Minister Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai emphasized Qatar’s dedication to supporting GCC digital transformation and technological integration. He noted the alignment among member states toward building a sustainable digital future powered by innovation and knowledge. His Excellency remarked, “GCC cooperation in digital government and emerging technologies is crucial for comprehensive development. In Qatar, we prioritize leveraging artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to enhance government services and quality of life.”
