Qatar Engages in UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies Meeting in Germany

Bonn: The State of Qatar is actively participating in the 62nd session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Subsidiary Bodies, taking place in Bonn, Germany. This session, which encompasses the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation, is a significant step in the preparations for the Conference of the Parties (COP30) scheduled for Brazil at the end of 2025.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar’s official delegation includes representatives from various national entities such as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar University, QatarEnergy, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, and the Ministry of Municipality. This participation underscores Qatar’s dedication to international efforts against climate change, with a particular focus on the Paris Agreement’s implementation.

Qatar is emphasizing its role in shaping global policies concerning emission reduction and climate change adaptation. The delegation is also focused on enhancing climate action financing and improving national report quality and transparency. Key issues at this year’s Bonn Conference include updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on international cooperation, supporting adaptation plans in developing countries, and advancing transparency systems and climate data exchange.

The conference features workshops and discussions with representatives from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), international research and financial institutions, and regional partners. The aim is to exchange best practices in renewable energy, innovation, finance, and climate capacity building. Qatar’s delegation stressed the importance of technology transfer and capacity-building initiatives in developing countries, along with improved access to accurate climate data.

The SB62 Bonn Conference is considered a critical milestone leading to COP30. The technical outcomes from this conference are expected to shape the final agreements in Brazil and provide a platform for exchanging views and coordinating positions among the participating countries.
