Qatar Investment Authority Announces Investment in Axiom Space

Doha: The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has declared its investment in Axiom Space, a prominent entity in the field of commercial human space exploration. This strategic move underscores QIA's commitment to diversifying its investment portfolio and advancing technological innovation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the announcement was part of a series of developments in Qatar, which included various high-level meetings and initiatives aimed at strengthening international relations and promoting cultural and economic growth. Among these, the QIA's investment in Axiom Space stands out as a significant step towards supporting the burgeoning space industry and enhancing Qatar's presence in the global technology sector.

Other notable activities reported include the meeting of the Council of Representatives of the Republic of Iraq's Speaker Haibat Al Halbousi with the Qatari Ambassador to Iraq, Sultan bin Mubarak Al Kubaisi. Additionally, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, held separate discussions with Jeffrey Kessler from the US Department of Commerce and Michael Kratsios from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy during their Qatar visit.

Further diplomatic engagements saw HM King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan meeting with the non-resident Qatari Ambassador to Bhutan, Mohammed bin Hassan Jaber Al Jaber. Meanwhile, Qatar's Crescent Sighting Committee has urged the sighting of the crescent moon for Ramadan on February 17, 2026.

Environmental initiatives were also highlighted, with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change organizing a symposium focusing on air quality and sustainability. Concurrently, the Ministry of Public Health unveiled a comprehensive food safety inspection plan for Ramadan, ensuring consumer protection during the period of increased food demand.

Qatar Chamber engaged in discussions with a Turkish trade delegation to explore economic cooperation, particularly in marble and natural stone industries. Plans for a cultural trip to Shanghai for Qatari youth, organized by Qatar's Ministry of Culture, were also announced to enhance global exposure for young people.

In the realm of sports and culture, the Doha Film Institute announced the line-up for its annual Qumra Masters talent incubator, while the Qatar Tennis Federation gears up for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. In addition, Qatar SC triumphed in the QTTA Cup, and Lusail International Circuit showcased the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix 2026 show car.

The report also covered the Qatar Red Crescent Society's medical campaign in Syria, Qatar Charity's Ramadan campaign, and various other initiatives reflecting Qatar's multifaceted approach to development and international cooperation.
