Qatar News Agency Celebrates 50 Years of Media Excellence

Doha: Qatar News Agency (QNA) is set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years since its inception on May 25, 1975. Over the past five decades, QNA has solidified its status as a prominent regional and international news platform, playing a crucial role in shaping Qatar’s modern image both locally and globally.

According to Qatar News Agency, since its foundation under Amiri Decree No. 94 of 1975, QNA has pursued a mission of delivering accurate and reliable news that reflects the state’s policies and its commitment to transparency and openness. The agency has consistently adhered to principles of accuracy, responsibility, credibility, and integrity, serving as a cornerstone of Qatar’s national media. Throughout its journey, QNA has not only maintained its foundational values but has also evolved to embrace technological advancements and digital transformation, ensuring its place as a leading news provider.

In response to the challenges posed by digital media’s rise, QNA has actively engaged in collaborations to enhance its technological capabilities. A significant partnership with Microsoft in October expanded QNA’s use of AI tools, aligning with global advancements in media and journalism. This collaboration aims to boost efficiency, precision, and innovation, reinforcing QNA’s ambition to lead digital transformation in the industry.

Furthering its modernization efforts, QNA launched a new website and mobile app in December 2024, enhancing its digital presence with advanced media content. The user-friendly platform includes an AI-powered chatbot, offering quick access to local and international news, and additional services like live TV, weather updates, and event information. QNA’s dedication to staying at the forefront of media innovation is evident in its embrace of social media and digital platforms, allowing it to reach broader audiences globally.

QNA’s commitment to multilingual news services has expanded its reach, now offering content in five major languages: Arabic, English, French, German, and Spanish. This expansion reflects its dedication to providing diverse content and engaging with a global audience. The agency’s comprehensive coverage extends to political, economic, cultural, and sports developments worldwide, with a focus on delivering timely and comprehensive news.

The agency’s investment in developing national media professionals is evident through the QNA Training Center, which offers specialized courses in areas such as AI in journalism, social media analysis, and news editing techniques. These initiatives aim to equip media professionals with skills to navigate the digital transformation of media.

QNA’s role in promoting media integration among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries was highlighted during the launch of a unified application for Gulf news agencies. This initiative, attended by GCC Ministers of Information, showcases QNA’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and media content quality across the region.

As QNA celebrates its 50th anniversary, it stands as a testament to Qatar’s commitment to media excellence and its pivotal role in promoting national identity and global engagement. The agency’s strategic initiatives and dedication to innovation ensure its continued prominence in the media landscape.
