Doha: The State of Qatar took part in a meeting held via video conference to oversee the supervision and verification mechanism of the ceasefire between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Congo River Alliance (March 23) Movement. This meeting was rooted in the Declaration of Principles signed in Doha on July 19, 2025.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar highlighted the significance of abstaining from any actions that might be perceived as violations of the ceasefire in the eastern region of the DRC. Before taking any escalatory measures, concerns should be formally reported through the approved mechanisms.
Qatar further emphasized the importance of addressing security concerns through the agreed channels. This approach enables mediators and facilitators to resolve issues via established peaceful and diplomatic methods.
The meeting also acknowledged the significant role of the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM), supported by the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), in ground-level monitoring and verification efforts.
Participants stressed the importance of fully utilizing these mechanisms to work towards a comprehensive and enduring ceasefire.
