Qatar Reaffirms Support for Palestinian People’s Right to Self-Determination and an Independent State

Vienna: The State of Qatar reaffirmed its full support for the brotherly Palestinian people and their legitimate, inalienable rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Qatar News Agency, this declaration was made by Acting Charge d'Affairs at the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Austria, Jamal bin Abdulrahman Al Jaber, during a session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held in Vienna discussing the situation in Palestine.

Al Jaber emphasized that the recognition of the Palestinian state has become established in international law and acknowledged by the global community, especially after 160 of the 193 United Nations member states, approximately 90 percent, have recognized it. He urged Israel, the occupying power, to recognize the Palestinian state as a reality and to cease misusing religious texts to justify unlawful expansion into Arab territories.

He underscored that sustainable peace for all can only be achieved through adherence to international law, the United Nations Charter, and relevant international resolutions, with a particular emphasis on recognizing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

Furthermore, Al Jaber stated that the State of Qatar supports UN Security Council Resolution 2,803 and the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. He emphasized that the swift and sincere implementation of both the resolution and the plan is a collective responsibility shared by all UN member states. He highlighted that Israel, as the occupying power, continues to breach the ceasefire, refuses to withdraw from Gaza, and obstructs the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel was enacted last October, following the Israeli army's withdrawal from its positions and populated areas in the Strip, and the initiation of the return of displaced persons to northern Gaza. This agreement was part of the initial phase of US President Donald Trump's initiative to end the conflict in Gaza.
