Qatar Showcases Tech Ambitions at Web Summit Lisbon 2024.

Lisbon: Web Summit Lisbon 2024, the world’s largest tech event, has concluded, welcoming over 71,000 business founders, investors, entrepreneurs, and tech leaders globally. The event featured a notable Qatari delegation led by HE Sheikh Jassim bin Mansour bin Jabor Al-Thani, in anticipation of Web Summit Qatar 2025.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation included representatives from various government and semi-government entities, alongside entrepreneurs and startups from Qatar. Participants included the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and other significant bodies such as Qatar Investment Authority and Qatar Development Bank.

The State of Qatar pavilion attracted thousands from Lisbon’s summit attendees, showcasing Qatar’s infrastructure and investment opportunities. As part of the event, the Startup Qatar Investment Program announced its first cohort of 11 selected startups from 2,000 contestants, with four businesses
sharing their application experiences.

Qatari speakers addressed topics such as digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and tourism, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to a tech-driven future. Discussions highlighted AI integration, investment prospects in Doha, and the global future of innovation, reinforcing Qatar’s position as a tech and knowledge hub.

In a panel with Paddy Cosgrave, CEO of Web Summit, Sheikh Jassim emphasized the success of Web Summit Qatar, including USD 1 billion in announced investments and USD 12 million in startup funding. Cosgrave noted the event’s potential for growth and international participation, stressing the Middle East’s significance as a market.

Qatar’s involvement in Web Summit Lisbon 2024 aligns with the Qatar National Vision 2030, focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship to build a strong tech ecosystem for national development and future prosperity.
