Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the 109th session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), held in The Hague. The Qatari delegation was led by HE Ambassador Dr. Mutlaq bin Majid Al Qahtani, who serves as the Permanent Representative to the OPCW for Qatar.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar’s statement during the session highlighted the severe challenges to international peace and security, with particular emphasis on the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The Ambassador underscored Qatar’s support for the State of Palestine’s request for an investigation into the alleged use of prohibited substances by Israel during its military operations in Gaza, noting that such actions constitute a violation of international law and require accountability.
The Ambassador condemned Israel’s targeting of sites in Syria, which he stated hinders OPCW missions and endangers the lives of its experts. He praised the constructive progress in cooperation between Syria and the OPCW Technical Secretariat, emphasizing Qatar’s support for enhancing this cooperation and urging the OPCW Executive Council to restore Syria’s rights within the organization.
His Excellency reiterated Qatar’s call for resolving the Russian-Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, advocating for peaceful settlements of international disputes.
