Qatari Newspaper Editorials Criticize Israeli Actions in Gaza and Highlight Local Achievements

Doha: Al-Watan newspaper has strongly criticized the Israeli decision to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and forcibly displace its population to the south, labeling it as a new violation by the occupation in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The publication urged the international community to take immediate action to stop this decision, emphasizing that the UN Security Council is the most appropriate venue for international efforts. The paper called for decisive resolutions under Chapter VII, stressing the need for political mobilization from entities such as the European Union, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to rally against this plan.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Watan also highlighted Qatar’s condemnation of the full occupation of Gaza, which the paper sees as a dangerous escalation that could worsen the humanitarian crisis and undermine efforts towards a permanent ceasefire. The newspaper called for immediate international action to prevent the Israeli authorities from implementing this decision and to confront violations of international humanitarian law, including the use of food as a weapon of war.

On the local front, Al-Arab newspaper praised the success of summer school camps, a collaborative effort between the Qatar Sports for All Federation and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. These camps aim to instill positive behaviors and values in children, reflecting Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting physical activity and cultural awareness among students. The paper noted the importance of coordination among institutions to achieve sustainable development goals.

Additionally, the Peninsula newspaper highlighted Qatar’s focus on football, as the nation prepares for a new season with the ambition to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Qatar is set to compete in Group A alongside the UAE and Oman in a single round-robin playoff stage. Domestically, the Qatar Stars League returns on August 14, with defending champions Al Sadd beginning their title defense on August 16.

The newspaper also noted Qatar’s commitment to hosting world-class football events, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November, followed by the FIFA Arab Cup in December. These events underscore Qatar’s growing stature as a footballing nation.
