Qatari Newspapers Editorials -1-

In its editorial, Al-Watan newspaper said that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani reaffirmed Qatar’s firm positions on the Palestinian cause and the aggression in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the provocations by settlers, who are supported by the army, in the West Bank.

In his speech at the first Gulf-European Summit in Brussels, His Highness reminded the world that a ceasefire must serve as the foundation for negotiations leading to a comprehensive solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the newspaper noted.

In this regard, Al-Watan highlighted His Highness’s appreciate to the role of the European Union in maintaining international security and peace, and his appreciation for the positions of some EU countries regarding the crimes committed against civilians. His Highness emphasized the critical need for comprehensive solution negotiations, considering them the gatew
ay to ending the current situation in the region.

The newspaper concluded its editorial by saying that more than 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza, and around 2,400 people have died due to the aggression in Lebanon, as well as the immense destruction and other significant losses. This calls for the entire international community to effectively pressure for an end to this destructive war and the initiation of permanent solution negotiations.

In its editorial, The Peninsula newspaper highlighted the convening of the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and European Union summit in Brussels on Wednesday, noting that the meeting of GCC and EU leaders marks the beginning of a new era in cooperation and partnership between the two blocs.

In its editorial titled “New Era in GCC-EU Ties ” the newspaper said that he GCC has grown in stature in recent decades, in step with the bloc’s remarkable economic progress. The bloc has been playing an increasingly important role for stability and development i
n the region.

The summit comes in the backdrop of dangerous escalation and tensions in the region, with Israel’s relentless war on the Gaza Strip and deadly bombing campaign in Lebanon. Apart from the pressing security and political issues, the summit also aimed to enhance energy cooperation between the two blocs, strengthening connectivity between the two regions, addressing climate change, and cooperation in areas of development and humanitarian aid, The Peninsula noted.

The newspaper concluded by saying that the Brussels summit will usher in a new era in GCC-EU relations for the benefit of the people of the two regions and beyond. It is hoped that the summit will pave the way for some progress in efforts for ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and delivery of humanitarian aid.
