In its editorial, Al-Arab daily said that in a move aimed at bolstering ties among GCC states, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani met on Sunday with HH Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser of the sisterly United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. The meeting discussed the fraternal relations between the two countries and ways to enhance and develop them.
The newspaper noted that the State of Qatar is leveraging its capabilities and diplomacy to bolster Gulf cooperation, believing in the strong historical ties and shared destiny among Gulf nations. This commitment is essential for strengthening the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to face regional challenges and achieve the aspirations for prosperity and welfare among member states.
Al-Arab concluded that this visit undoubtedly represents an important step toward strengthening Qatari-UAE relations and solidifying the path of cooperation and integration across all fields to serve our peoples’ aspirations for a future
characterized by further development and progress, while also addressing the political, security, and economic challenges facing the region, ensuring a more stable and prosperous future for all.
In another issue, Al-Watan newspaper said that more than a year after the brutal Israeli war on Gaza, the situation remains dire. Over 42,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, with nearly 100,000 injured. Thousands of bodies are estimated to be buried under approximately 42 million tons of rubble, resulting from the destruction of 163,778 buildings around 66% of the total structures in the Strip. According to UN estimates, clearing this debris alone will take 14 years and cost at least $1.2 billion.
The paper pointed out that the Israeli occupation continues its acts of destruction and genocide in full view of the entire world, with responses described as tepid and inadequate to address the scale of the crime committed against unarmed civilians living under a horrific siege, lacking basic necessities for survival.
The Western community, in particular, mobilizes and spends billions in other issues that directly align with its interests, it added.
In conclusion, Al-Watan said that this negligence is unacceptable, and expressions of condemnation, along with calls for meaningless ceasefires, are entirely inadequate. This reflects, among other issues, a hypocritical double standard. In light of this, the international community must take real action not only to halt this horrific crime but also to initiate real negotiations based on a two-state solution.
English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that Israel has committed massacre after massacres of innocent civilians with impunity in Gaza and Lebanon since it launched its war on Gaza on Oct. 7 last year. Israel is emboldened by the lack of accountability as it has the tacit support of the some Western governments.
Under the headline “Israeli Impunity Must End,” the paper said that there is no justification in bombing of hospitals and schools and killing dozens of inn
ocent people, including women and children on the pretext of attacking Hamas fighters. In Gaza, at least 42,924 people have been killed, mostly women and children, and 100,833 wounded in Israeli attacks.
The apparent targeted killing of three media workers in an Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon on Friday has renewed calls for ending impunity for Israels abuses, the paper said.
Meanwhile, Qatar has played a significant role for a ceasefire in Gaza and end of hostilities, The Peninsula concluded.
