Doha: Qatari newspapers issued Saturday shed light on the National Human Rights Committee’s call for continued efforts to enhance the well-being of workers across all sectors, including its plans to organize a workshop in collaboration with offices of labor-intensive communities to discuss workers’ health issues, paving the way for launching a campaign titled “Workers’ Health” with the participation of relevant stakeholders.

Also, the newspapers highlighted the awarding of the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize to Palestinian journalists covering the war in Gaza. This prize, announced by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on World Press Freedom Day, represents international recognition of their tremendous efforts in conveying the truth about the Israeli occupation’s brutal crimes against the Palestinian people.

The newspapers considered the Palestinian journalists’ winning of the Press Freedom Prize a message to the occupation that no matter how hard i
t tries to silence Palestinian voices and hide its crimes, it will not succeed.

The newspapers called on the international community to take urgent action to protect Palestinian journalists and prevent the occupation authorities from committing further violations against freedom of expression and information.

In its editorial titled “We Salute the Steadfastness of Palestinian Journalists,” Al Raya newspaper expressed its deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by Palestinian journalists in conveying the truth about the Israeli occupation’s brutal crimes against the Palestinian people in occupied Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza.

The newspaper stressed that despite the dangerous nature of their profession and the constant targeting by the Israeli occupation, the determination of Palestinian journalists to inform the world about what is happening in Gaza since October 7th, and even before that, has never wavered. The escalating international movement rejecting the systematic and barbaric massacres agains
t the Palestinian people is a direct response to these images and brutal scenes.

Al Raya added that the Palestinian journalists’ winning of the Press Freedom Prize is a message to the Israeli occupation that no matter how hard it tries to silence Palestinian voices and hide its crimes, it is delusional and will not succeed as long as there are brave Palestinians who carry the burden of their cause and dedicate their lives to it.

The newspaper pointed out that Palestinian journalists practice their work with complete professionalism, conveying the voice of their people to the farthest corners of the earth. At the same time, they are engaged in a form of resistance against the occupation, which has tried to monopolize information through various criminal methods. The occupation has directly targeted them, their families, and their headquarters, and has detained them in a clear message of threat, without the international community taking action to stop the crimes against them and the unarmed Palestinian peopl
e.

The targeting of journalists by the occupation has led to the martyrdom of 135 Palestinian journalists since the aggression of October 7th. However, Palestinian journalists remain committed to their right to convey the truth to the world, as well as to holding the leaders of the occupation accountable and bringing them to trial for their involvement in assassinating the martyrs of truth who revealed the occupation’s reality and its crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The newspaper concluded by stating that Israel’s criminal record necessitates urgent action from the international community to prevent the occupation authorities from committing further violations against freedom of expression and information. All measures must be taken to stop the violence against Palestinians and media workers, and to ensure their protection. Qatar has repeatedly called upon the world to hold the occupation accountable for this horrific crime and to bring those involved to international justice.
