Qatari Newspapers Highlight Diplomatic Success and Urgent Regional Issues

Doha: In their editorials on Tuesday, Qatari newspapers concentrated on key topics of both local and international significance, underscoring Qatar’s successful diplomacy in establishing itself as a reliable mediator and its dedication to fostering global stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers noted that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised Qatar’s role in facilitating the negotiations leading to the signing of the Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement in Doha.

The newspapers also emphasized the rising regional and international demands for an immediate cessation of the genocide in Gaza. Both the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are set to hold emergency meetings to explore political, legal, and diplomatic measures at Arab and international levels to address the serious violations by the Israeli occupation and the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Domestically, the newspapers discussed a report from Standard Chartered, which highlighted significant growth in the Qatari economy. The report forecasts Qatar’s GDP to grow by 4.0% in 2025, potentially rising to 5.5% in 2026, which would surpass market averages and approach the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) forecast of 5.6%.

Additionally, the newspapers showcased major advancements in Qatar’s healthcare sector, positioning the country among the world’s most advanced nations in providing comprehensive healthcare.

In its editorial, Al-Arab newspaper emphasized that Qatar’s effective diplomacy has led to numerous achievements, reinforcing its international reputation as a trusted mediator. Al-Arab highlighted Qatar’s pivotal role in resolving conflicts such as the Darfur crisis in Sudan, the Lebanese crisis, and Afghanistan negotiations. The United Nations acknowledged Doha’s peace efforts in eastern Congo as crucial, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcoming the signing of the Declaration of Principles.

The newspaper concluded by recognizing Doha’s significant regional and international media presence, with Arab and international outlets affirming that Qatar’s successful mediation in Congo represents a turning point, establishing Doha as a hub for constructive dialogue in complex conflicts.

On matters concerning Arab affairs, Al-Sharq newspaper reported a growing international and regional movement condemning Israeli actions. A joint statement by 25 Western countries, including the UK, France, Italy, Canada, and Australia, called for an immediate halt to the war in Gaza, highlighting the unprecedented suffering of Palestinian civilians.

Al-Sharq explained that the Arab League and the OIC are preparing for emergency meetings to discuss responses to the serious violations by the Israeli occupation and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The editorial concluded by stressing that the global response reflects the world’s shock at the Israeli crimes and the use of starvation as a weapon in the ongoing conflict. The paper urged global conscience to translate its stance into concrete actions to end the genocide, lift the blockade, and stop systematic starvation.
