Qatari Newspapers Highlight Efforts to Broker Ceasefire in Gaza

Doha: In their editorials on Wednesday, Qatari newspapers emphasized the significance of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani’s visit to the United States, where he engaged in talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

According to Qatar News Agency, the visit is part of ongoing consultation and coordination between Qatar, the United States, and Egypt to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate a hostage exchange, and end the war swiftly. The newspapers highlighted Qatar’s persistent efforts despite challenges and ceasefire violations by Israel, which resumed attacks on Gaza on March 18 after refusing to advance to the subsequent phase of the ceasefire agreement.

Al-Sharq, in its editorial titled “Qatar and America: A Partnership to Ensure Regional Stability,” noted that the visit underscores the strong partnership between Qatar and the United States. The editorial stressed the strategic collaboration aimed at regional stability and the joint mediation involving Egypt to end the Gaza conflict. The paper explained that the talks continued the consultation and coordination to achieve a ceasefire and hostage exchange, pointing out the challenges posed by Israeli actions.

Al-Sharq concluded that the visit reaffirms Qatar’s commitment to ending the war in Gaza and supporting regional stability initiatives, highlighting the strategic alliance and mutual trust between Qatar and the United States in addressing regional and international challenges.

Al-Watan daily highlighted Qatar’s crucial role alongside Egypt and the US in reaching a Gaza agreement for a permanent ceasefire, detainee exchange, and urgent aid delivery. The paper noted the challenges faced by mediation efforts, emphasizing Qatar’s relentless pursuit of a truce despite Israeli ceasefire violations and the recent attack on March 18, which resulted in the deaths of 30 Palestinians.

The newspaper praised the talks between the Qatari Prime Minister and US Secretary of State as part of ongoing efforts to resolve the Palestinian suffering. It expressed hope that these efforts would lead to a solution for the Gaza crisis.

Al-Watan concluded by stressing that successful mediation requires cooperation from all parties. It lamented Israel’s lack of interest in peace but remained hopeful, reiterating Qatar’s and the mediators’ continued efforts until a resolution is achieved to end the tragedy.
