Doha: Qatari newspapers addressed, in their editorials on Thursday, a range of local, Arab, and international issues, leading with the State of Qatar's Environment Day celebration, which they described as a national occasion reflecting a sustained path of hard work and embedding environmental protection as an integral part of the country development project.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers emphasized that Qatar has chosen to treat the environment as a strategic priority, integrating sustainability into its public policies, future plans, and establishing it as one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. The editorials also highlighted Qatar's ongoing support for efforts aimed at encouraging all Sudanese parties to prioritize the national interest, end the war, and build sustainable peace that preserves Sudan's unity and fulfills the aspirations of its people for security, stability, and development.
On the Palestinian cause, the newspapers highlighted the continued Israeli violations in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as in Lebanon and Syria, amid international silence, stressing the need for the international community to take action to put a definitive end to these violations.
Al-Raya said in its editorial that the environment occupies a central place in Qatar's strategies and plans, being one of the four pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. In this context, Qatar seeks to establish environmental sustainability by increasing the number of protected areas. The newspaper added that celebrating Qatar Environment Day shows an advancement in the country's environmental work, where it is no longer merely an institutional responsibility but a comprehensive societal approach. It noted that this year's slogan, "Our Behavior Reflects on Our Environment," carries a clear message that individual and collective behaviors play a decisive role in protecting the environment, and that many environmental challenges can be mitigated through conscious daily practices such as rationalizing consumption, reducing waste, and preserving terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
Al-Raya concluded by noting that the state has strengthened environmental governance through an integrated system of legislation, policies, and institutions, most notably the establishment of the National Committee for Combating Environmental Damage and Violations at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. This step, the paper said, reflects a shift from reactive measures to systematic planning based on monitoring, oversight, and accountability. The approach has also contributed to expanding natural reserves, protecting wildlife, and integrating sustainability concepts into strategic projects in a way that enhances biodiversity and preserves natural resources.
Meanwhile, Al-Arab daily described Qatar Environment Day, celebrated annually on Feb. 26, as a national opportunity to assess the progress of environmental action, review its priorities, and underscore the importance of community awareness in protecting the environment in line with comprehensive development and Qatar National Vision 2030. The newspaper added that 2025 marked a pivotal phase in Qatar's environmental protection efforts, witnessing the implementation of national policies, strategies, and projects that strengthened the environmental framework and enhanced the country's readiness to address environmental challenges. These efforts fall under the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy 2024-2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
Among the most prominent achievements the paper highlighted were the launch of the Qatar National Climate Change Action Plan 2030, the National Strategy to Combat Desertification 2025-2030, and the introduction of a biodiversity database documenting more than 2,567 species, making the information accessible to researchers and the public. Al-Arab concluded by affirming that media campaigns and awareness programs carried out by the ministry throughout 2025 helped encourage responsible environmental behavior. It stressed that the slogan "Our Behavior Reflects on Our Environment" embodies the essence of the national environmental action, as protecting the environment begins with daily habits and requires commitment from people to ensure the sustainability of natural resources and quality of life.
