Qatar’s Bid to Host the Olympic Games: A Vision of Inclusivity and Development

Doha: The Peninsula newspaper has spotlighted Qatar’s bid to host the Olympic Games, emphasizing the potential to broaden the Olympic movement’s reach, promote inclusivity, and demonstrate the region’s growing influence in international athletics. If successful, Qatar would mark a historic achievement as the first country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to host the Olympic Games. This accomplishment would highlight the nation’s exceptional organizational capacity, advanced infrastructure, and steadfast commitment to using sports as a tool for unity and development.

According to Qatar News Agency, central to Qatar’s bid is the vision of sport as a universal language and a platform to foster peace, cultural exchange, and sustainable development. The proposal aligns with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy, both prioritizing human and social development, civic engagement, and global cooperation. With 95% of the required sports infrastructure already in place, Qatar is prepared for a seamless Olympic delivery. A national plan is underway to ensure 100% facility readiness in line with international standards and long-term sustainability objectives.

The Peninsula concluded by stating that should Qatar win the bid, it would offer the world a unique Arab Olympic model rooted in diversity, inclusion, and regional representation. This vision reflects Qatar’s broader commitment to showcasing its capabilities on an international stage.

In another editorial context, Al Watan newspaper praised Qatar’s ongoing efforts to promote peaceful resolutions and political solutions, aiming for global stability and development. The newspaper highlighted remarks by Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during a Security Council high-level open debate. Her statement referenced the tripartite summit held in Doha, which contributed to favorable conditions for de-escalation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The editorial concluded by underscoring Her Excellency’s commitment to diplomatic solutions and urging the Security Council to advance peaceful processes to prevent human suffering and promote global stability.
