Qatar’s Cherif Younousse Sets New Personal Record

Doha: Qatari national beach volleyball team player, Cherif Younousse, achieved a new personal milestone by topping the Best Blocker category at the Newport Beach leg of the Elite16 World Beach Volleyball Series. The Qatari team claimed the tournament title today in California, USA. Qatar defeated Brazil in the final match in straight sets (21-16, 30-28) to secure the championship.

According to Qatar News Agency, Younousse scored an impressive 35 points, edging out Sweden’s Jacob Holting and Latvia’s Kristians Fokerots, who each scored 34 points. The Qatari player described winning the Newport Beach title and setting a new personal record as a morale boost ahead of the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships. The event will take place in Adelaide, Australia, from November 14 to 23, featuring 48 top teams from around the world.

Qatar’s beach volleyball team has a strong track record internationally, having won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finishing fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and securing eight gold medals in various competitions this season. This underscores the progress of Qatari beach volleyball in recent years.
