Jeddah: The State of Qatar actively participated in the inaugural general meeting of the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA-ARIN), hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Leading the Qatari delegation was HE Attorney-General Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi.
According to Qatar News Agency, the two-day meeting aimed to enhance cooperation and coordination among member states in efforts to identify, trace, freeze, seize, and recover illicitly obtained assets. The discussions also focused on establishing an effective network of contact points between member states, supporting the development and unification of national legal frameworks, and strengthening relevant institutional structures. Additionally, the meeting emphasized consolidating partnerships with international organizations and similar regional networks to foster greater transparency and cooperation.
Marking the official launch of MENA-ARIN, this first annual general meeting set the stage for the network’s mission to bolster asset recovery efforts throughout the region. HE the Attorney-General expressed Qatar’s dedication to combating money laundering and corruption through legislative development, international collaboration, and the creation of specialized networks.
During his remarks, HE the Attorney-General addressed the challenges in the asset recovery process and urged the adoption of more effective international mechanisms. He also advocated for the use of modern technologies and voluntary recovery programs to enhance the process. His Excellency reiterated Qatar’s support for the ARIN and expressed confidence in its capacity to meet its objectives.
