Doha: QatarDebate Center (QDC), established by Qatar Foundation (QF), has organized the British Parliamentary Open Debate Championship (BP), hosted by Qatar University (QU). The two-day event features 76 teams, including 40 international teams from abroad, marking the first tournament of the current season in English, with the engagement of 152 debaters from Kenya, Uganda, Iraqi Kurdistan, Jordan, and others.
According to Qatar News Agency, the participants competed throughout four tentative rounds in three key categories. The joint team from Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) emerged victorious in the open championship category. Meanwhile, Doha Modern Indian School (DPS Doha) secured the title among local schools, and Nova Pioneer Tatu City Girls from Kenya claimed the title in the international schools’ category.
The judging panel consisted of 39 international judges and honored Hussein Mohammed from QU and Yasser Adnan from NU-Q as the best debaters. Sara Bhardwaj from DPS Doha was recognized as the best debater in the national schools’ category.
QDC emphasized that the tournament serves as a global platform aimed at promoting debate, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding. It highlighted that the event represents a springboard to a new season filled with informative events designed to spread the culture of debate and empower young people to enhance their communication and responsible discourse skills.
