QFFD and UNRWA Seal $20 Million Agreement to Bolster Agency’s Resources for 2025-2026

Doha: Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have formalized an agreement to enhance UNRWA’s resources with a financial package of USD 20 million for the years 2025-2026. The funding, distributed as USD 10 million annually, aims to support the agency’s critical operations in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the signing ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, HE Chairperson of the QFFD Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani, Director General of the QFFD Fahad Al Sulaiti, and HE Commissioner-General of the UNRWA Philippe Lazzarini. This partnership marks a continued effort by the State of Qatar to bolster UNRWA’s capabilities.

Qatar has previously contributed significantly to UNRWA’s regular supplies, providing USD 18 million over two years from 2023 to 2024. Moreover, an additional USD 20 million was contributed in 2024 to address urgent agency needs amidst a decline in international support, reflecting Qatar’s ongoing commitment to aiding Palestinian refugees.
