QRCS and GIHR Forge Partnership to Enhance Humanitarian Efforts

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) signed a joint cooperation agreement with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs (GIHR) to support and enhance joint activities and programs that serve humanitarian causes, promote and protect human rights, and consolidate the principles of international humanitarian law. The agreement was signed by HE Secretary-General of QRCS Faisal Mohammed Al Emadi and Executive Director of GIHR Nazar Abdelgadir Saleh, with several key officials in attendance.

According to Qatar News Agency, this cooperation marks a promising venture between QRCS and GIHR, aiming to strengthen relations in the fields of international humanitarian law, advocacy, and humanitarian diplomacy. HE Secretary-General Faisal Mohammed Al Emadi emphasized that the agreement reflects QRCS’s commitment to promoting legal concepts and supporting joint advocacy efforts. He highlighted that this partnership is part of QRCS’s ongoing efforts to build partnerships that align with its humanitarian goals and Qatar National Vision 2030.

Executive Director of GIHR Nazar Abdelgadir expressed that the agreement represents a significant step toward advancing collaboration between QRCS and GIHR. He noted that it establishes an institutional framework for joint efforts in promoting and protecting human rights and international humanitarian law.

The joint agreement focuses on enhancing the capabilities of QRCS staff and volunteers, supporting initiatives advocating for humanitarian causes, and participating in international human rights events. It includes organizing and participating in conferences to exchange experiences and ideas on opportunities and challenges in the field.

The agreement also involves implementing research projects and preparing reports that contribute to improving public policies related to human rights. Additionally, it calls for coordination in supporting QRCS projects and benefiting from GIHR’s educational programs and strategic research.

As part of the cooperation, QRCS employees attended a lecture on the intersection between international human rights law and international humanitarian law, delivered by Nazar Abdelgadir and Adel Sharif. The lecture addressed key topics including defining human rights and international humanitarian law, their differences and complementarities, and the importance of disseminating their provisions.

The lecture also explored primary sources such as the Geneva Conventions, international custom, and rulings by international criminal courts, while discussing types of armed conflicts and their implications for international law.
