Idlib: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) opened Monday two new residential villages in Idlib, northern Syria, consisting of 600 housing units with integrated service facilities. The move comes as part of the QRCS’ approaches to provide shelter for the affected and most needy displaced families, for the benefit of 3,000 beneficiaries.

According to Qatar News Agency, QRCS has been continuing to implement residential village and alternative shelter projects in northern Syria since 2015, which have had a significant impact on changing the lives of displaced people and tent dwellers. It has built 15 residential villages in northern Syria containing 3,462 apartments, equipped with integrated infrastructure of clean water networks, electricity, sewage, roads, and parks, in addition to mosques, schools, clinics, and shops in each village.

QRCS emphasized that it does not only build villages and residential units but also equips the apartments to be furnished with all the basic necessities a family needs to start a
new life, in addition to providing service facilities.

QRCS’ Director of Communication and Fundraising, Mohamed Ahmed Al Bishri, stated that the projects come within an integrated strategic program within the framework of the QRCS vision as a shelter provider. Under this program, QRCS has implemented 15 villages over the past 10 years, including about 3,500 housing units equipped with all the basic necessities families need to start a safe and dignified life.

He highlighted that the opening of the two villages is a message of hope from the State of Qatar and its people to all those affected around the world. He expressed his hope that these villages will be a model to be emulated in providing sustainable humanitarian solutions and that they will inspire more projects that contribute to alleviating the suffering of the displaced in other areas.
