Washington: The Republican Party has successfully gained control of the US Senate by securing at least a 51-seat majority. This victory came as the initial results of the US presidential and congressional elections were announced, following the closure of polling stations in several states. The elections witnessed intense competition between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrat rival Kamala Harris.

According to Qatar News Agency, the current composition of the US Senate had Democrats holding 51 seats, while Republicans controlled 49 seats. The shift in power marks a significant change in the political landscape, with Republicans now holding the majority.

Additionally, Republicans made early advances in their efforts to maintain control of the House of Representatives. Preliminary results indicated that Republicans were on track to secure 159 seats out of the 435 available, while Democrats were expected to hold 103 seats.
