Rescue Operations Underway for 27 Missing after Boat Sinks in Indonesian Waters

Rafah: Rescue teams in Indonesia: announced the search for 27 people believed to be adrift on a floating object in Indonesian waters, a day after their boat sank amid rough seas.

According to Qatar News Agency, local authorities reported that a passenger boat departed from Taliabu port in North Maluku province after sunset on Sunday was heading to Kema city in North Sulawesi province before sinking in the northern waters of Taliabu Island.

The boat owner told authorities that the boat's captain informed him that it sank after the bow was damaged by high waves during bad weather. All 27 people on board were able to evacuate using a small boat before the vessel sank, but their current whereabouts are still unknown.
