Shura Council Applauds Amir’s Participation in GCC-US and Arab Summits; Reviews Transport Strategy

Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly meeting on Monday, chaired by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. The session commenced with the Council commending HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s involvement in the GCC-US summit in Riyadh and his meeting with HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Council emphasized that this engagement reflects Qatar’s commitment to strengthening Gulf cooperation, enhancing bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia, and advancing the strategic partnership with the US, all contributing to regional security and stability. The Council also welcomed the visit of US President Donald Trump to Doha, underscoring its significance in bolstering bilateral relations and cooperation in defense, economy, and energy.

The Council further praised HH the Amir’s participation in the Arab Summit in Baghdad as a demonstration of Qatar’s dedication to supporting Palestinian rights and fostering joint Arab action against regional challenges. During the meeting, HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani presented the Ministry’s 2025-2030 strategy focused on developing a sustainable, smart, and safe transport system in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim highlighted the Ministry’s role in advancing transport sectors and praised the strategy as a key pillar in promoting environmental sustainability and economic diversification. The Minister of Transport outlined the strategy’s focus on leveraging infrastructure to enhance transport services and developing national skills to sustain network growth.

The strategy aims to improve land, maritime, and air transport while supporting services, with an emphasis on digital transformation and smart systems. The Council members called for addressing public transportation challenges, strengthening oversight of private transport companies, and considering exemptions for specific groups from transportation fees. They also emphasized the need for integrated digital development of services and initiatives to promote public transport usage.

In response, the Minister of Transport acknowledged the Council’s feedback and affirmed the Ministry’s commitment to implementing projects that enhance service quality, sustainability, and partnerships with the private sector. The meeting concluded with the Speaker commending the Ministry’s efforts and the Council’s dedication to supporting development plans aligned with QNV 2030 goals.
