Shura Council Concludes Key Legislative Session with Condemnation of Al-Udeid Base Attack and Review of Reports

Doha: The Shura Council today held the closing session of its fourth regular meeting of the First Legislative Term, corresponding to the 53rd annual session, in the “Tamim bin Hamad Hall” at the Council’s headquarters. The session was chaired by HE Speaker of the Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Council renewed its strong condemnation of the missile attack on Al-Udeid Air Base last Monday, carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Council stressed that the attack constitutes a violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar and its airspace, as well as a breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The Council affirmed that such behavior runs counter to the principles of good neighborliness and undermines the foundations of relations that should be based on mutual understanding and respect, promoting regional security and stability. The Council expressed its appreciation to the Qatari Armed Forces, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for their role in responding to the attack. It praised the preparedness and response of the competent authorities, which helped contain the incident.

The Council also expressed gratitude for the solidarity expressed by regional and international parliamentary organizations and friendly countries. In the same context, the Council welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel and commended Qatar’s diplomatic efforts to enhance peace in the region.

During the session, the Council approved a draft law amending provisions of Law No. (14) of 2014 on Combating Cybercrimes and another amending the Shura Council’s internal regulations. The Council reviewed reports regarding domestic workers’ departure procedures and rising divorce rates, issuing decisions accordingly.

Furthermore, the Council listened to reports on its delegations’ participation in international parliamentary events, including visits to Oman and Algeria. HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council read Amiri Decree No. (58) of 2025, declaring the closure of the session effective Tuesday, 1 July 2025.

HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim highlighted the term’s achievements, including committee meetings addressing vital national topics and passing key draft laws related to human resources, disabilities, legal practice, and other areas. His Excellency emphasized the Council’s attention to social values, national identity, and citizens’ concerns.

The Speaker praised the cooperation between the Council and the government, noting sessions characterized by transparency and dialogue. The Council’s parliamentary diplomacy was noted, with participation in international conferences and hosting parliamentary delegations, enhancing Qatar’s regional and international standing.

HE the Speaker reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting Qatar’s image and defending important Arab and Islamic causes, notably the Palestinian cause. He underscored the Council’s advocacy for Palestinian statehood and called for an end to aggression against Palestinians.

His Excellency concluded by recognizing the achievements of the First Legislative Term, attributing them to the dedication of Council members and expressing appreciation for contributions that serve the nation and support its progress.
