Doha: Over its successive sessions, the Shura Council has consistently demonstrated its vital and dynamic legislative role in serving the interests of the Qatari people and fulfilling their aspirations through a framework of legislation and laws that it discusses, approves, enacts, and amends, under the rule of law and in alignment with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar.
According to Qatar News Agency, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani consistently affirms in his annual opening addresses to the Shura Council the Council’s legislative and oversight role, which it performs with excellence, and the legislative packages and draft laws discussed and approved by the Council, which have resulted in foundational laws regulating various aspects of life and transactions in the country, all serving the interests of the nation and its citizens.
The noble directives of HH the Amir serve as a guiding light for the Council in its journey, motivating further efforts and work to achieve goals that meet the aspirations of citizens and contribute to development and prosperity across the nation.
The Shura Council, based on its legislative and oversight powers as defined by the Constitution, is fully aware of the great responsibility entrusted to it. Accordingly, its members continue to fulfill their duties in the new session, prioritizing the interests of the citizens and the supreme interest of the country, and translating the aspirations of the wise leadership and the Qatari people into tangible realities and a promising, prosperous future.
The Shura Council concluded its 1st legislative term in November of last year, corresponding to the annual sessions (50-53), adding to its record of over 50 years a legacy of achievements that reflect its commitment to its constitutional mission and its dedication to enhancing participation in decision-making and consolidating the foundations of the consultative approach in the state, ensuring the realization of the nation’s supreme interest.
Undoubtedly, the Shura Council will continue in its upcoming session to play its vital legislative role in serving the Qatari people and meeting their aspirations through the legislative framework it reviews, approves, enacts, and amends, under the rule of law and good governance, and in accordance with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar, which serves as the legal safeguard for these national ambitions and interests.
In continuation of the close cooperation between the executive and legislative branches, the Shura Council has consistently hosted a number of ministers and senior officials in the state during its successive sessions to discuss the plans, strategies, and government initiatives undertaken by their respective entities in light of national development strategies, especially the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030.
