Sousan: Arab Summit hosted by Saudi Arabia is a new beginning of joint Arab action

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sousan affirmed that the Arab League summit to be held in Saudi Arabia is the beginning of a new phase of joint Arab action.

“The meeting covered serious and transparent debates that dealt with draft resolutions on the agenda,” the Assistant Minister stated in a press release following the senior officials meeting held Tuesday in Jeddah.

“There is a recognition of the need for Jeddah summit to be the threshold of a new phase of joint Arab action and to overcome the implications of the past,” Sousan said.

He added that the Syrian delegation was highly welcome in these meetings as “we all strive as Arabs to unify our efforts to fortify the Arab position and respond to the different challenges facing the Arab nation, notably the development and changes on the international arena.”

“We hope that this summit will meet the aspirations of our peoples. Topics discussed various issues related to Sudan and Libya and other countries as well as the return of Syrian refugees,” he added.

Asked about the return of the Syrian refugees, Sousan clarified that the Syrian government has issued amnesty degrees and national reconciliations in addition to facilitation procedures for their return. However, that requires providing services in the areas of these citizens, and thus their return is highly linked to the reconstruction process.

On the other hand, Assistant Minister declared that the sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria hinder the decent return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland.
