South Africa Flood Death Toll Rises to 49

Eastern Cape: The death toll from floods that swept through South Africa’s Eastern Cape province has risen to 49. Local authorities reported that the floods, which have persisted since the beginning of this week, have been exacerbated by heavy rains and snowfall. The severe winter conditions have disrupted transportation and electricity networks across the province.

According to Qatar News Agency, floods have become more common and severe in South Africa as the effects of climate change are increasingly felt. The situation in Eastern Cape is reminiscent of a devastating storm that struck South Africa’s east coast in April 2022, which killed nearly 400 people and displaced thousands more. The persistent flooding highlights the growing environmental challenges faced by the region.
