Al Shaqab Racing’s filly AL DAWODIYA (IRE) (Gutaifan x Lillebonne) added her second win to her account in the Betway Fillies’ Handicap at Lingfield Park, on Saturday, 12 September. It was Sean Leavy, again, who steered the Richard Hannon-trained three-year-old bay filly, as he did on 6 August when she tasted victory for the first time in a maiden fillies’ stakes for three-year-olds and older females over 1100 metres at Bath.
The jockey-filly duo headed this time to Lingfield for a handicap (0-85) for the same age category, but over a half-furlong longer. AL DAWODIYA broke well from the stalls towards the lead from outside. It was FLIPPA THE STRIPPA (IRE) (Outstrip x Celsius Degre) who took the lead next to the rail in the early stages. Just before the 2f mark, AL DAWODIYA made ground to overtake her and take the lead. The two fillies battled, but AL DAWODIYA kept the challenge at bay and secured her second win half a length in front of FLIPPA THE STRIPPA. COMPANY MINX (IRE) (Fast Company x Ice Haven) was a further neck behind in third.
AL DAWODIYA was bred by John Conolly and was bought as a yearling at the Arqana August Sale in 2018. She is a daughter of GUTAIFAN; a young sire, who stands for Al Shaqab Racing at Yeomanstown Stud in Ireland. Her second dam has produced the MONT ORMEL (Air Chief Marshal), winner of the Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris (Gr1).
