Tokyo, Qatari champion Mutaz Essa Barshim participated in the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan, as part of the preparations for the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled for July 23 to August 8.
Barshim achieved 2.30m in the High Jump competition to confirm his readiness for the Tokyo Olympics as he seeks to capture the gold medal.
This was Barshim’s first official foreign competition since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the cancellation and postponement of many international and continental tournaments.
Barshim is a two-time Olympic medalist after capturing the bronze medal in the 2012 London Games and the silver medal in the 2016 Rio Games. He won the World Athletics competition twice in 2017 London and 2019 Doha.
