Injaaz Stud’s LEKHRAIB (AF AlBahar x Grace T) continued with his run of promising results on Thursday at the Al Rayyan Park dirt track when the Gassim Mohammad Ghazali schooled horse won the THE LATE RASHID MUBARAK AL SHAFI CUP (4yo & older PA) in a thrilling finish. The six-furlong sprint had JP Guillambert astride the 6yo and as the action heated up at the business end, Lekhraib held his own edging out Luca Maniezzi ridden TAHRI BAHA (Mared Al Sahra x Zamara), trained by Mohammed Hussain Afroz for owner Dhafi Rashid Al Marri, by three-quarters of a length. Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s ALMUHEET (AF Albahar x Maboud) was ridden to third place by Pierantonio Convertino for trainer Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi.
Subaiya Awad Ibrahim’s DHERGHAM BU THAILA (Soviet Secret x Dualite) registered his second straight victory when the Mohamed Khaled Elahmed trained gelding eased to victory in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED CONDITIONS event on dirt on Thursday. The 5yo had won a C&D handicap run last month under Anas Al Seyabi and the two united once again as they won the six-furlong sprint with three and a half lengths to spare.
Al Naif Racing’s FAHDAH AL NAIF (Amer x Midjal) built on her promising run over C&D a month ago when she won for the second time this season on Thursday. In the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (85 & below), Gassim Mohammad Ghazali trained mare was helmed by JP Guillambert, and the two picked up a fine victory in the six-furlong sprint, going past the post two lengths a quarter ahead of the competition.
After a few forgettable finishes far and between, Al Ghazali Stud’s CRISSCROSSED (Oasis Dream x Double Crossed) entered the winner’s circle for only the fourth time in his 42 race career on Thursday. In the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (75 & below), the Said Khamis Al Mutani saddled horse had Tomas Lukasek for company and the two edged out Ivan Rossi ridden Comrade In Arms by half a length at the post for a fine victory.
Abu Fass Stud’s FLORIN DE FAUST (Kerbella x Isis Du Clos) bounced back from a forgettable finish last time out to register his first career victory. In the PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (75 & below), Leo Salles was in the saddle of the Mohammed Riyaz Ibrahim Kasim trained horse and the duo pulled off a close victory with three-quarters of a length to spare. The outing in the 1700m run was the 5yo’s first ever on dirt.
Qatari jockey Saleh Salem Al Marri made it two victories in two when he helmed Ibrahim Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani’s SKIP THE QUEUE (Acclamation x Red Perdita) in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Qatari Riders Only) (Div 2) (70 & below) on Thursday. The victory in the six-furlong sprint was the 3yo’s first in his 12 race career so far. The colt was saddled by Hamad Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani.
Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s KHAFOOQ (Kodiac x Al Manaal) made a winning debut in Qatar when the 4yo picked up a dominant win in the six-furlong THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Qatari Riders Only) (Div 1) (70 & below) on dirt on Thursday. Ridden by Saleh Salem Al Marri the gelding led a one-two for trainer Mohammed Gassim Ghazali, who also saddled the runner up, Lawless Louis, ridden by Ali Khalid Al Mosallam.
Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s SKY BLUE (Zoffany x Blur) finished runner up over C&D a little over a month ago. But on Thursday, the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki trained gelding went one better in the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE (4-6yo) to register his first career win in nine outings. Helmed by Eduardo Pedroza in the 1700m run, the 4yo won handsomely with four lengths and a quarter to spare.
Mansoor Mesfer Al Hajri’s SHALEESH (Zaeem Al Shajaa x Rakayez) switched surfaces and moved up a bit in distance to shed his maiden status on his third career outing on Thursday. In the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN MAIDEN PLATE, rider Gary Sanchez helmed the colt to a close victory in the 1700m run with half a length to spare. This was the apprentice rider’s second victory this season.
