SHE’S OUR QUEEN, PERFECT EMPIRE, OFF HE GOES, JABALALY register victories on Classic/Pearl Day

Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s SHE’S OUR QUEEN (Toronado x Dyna Bowl) bounced back from a forgettable outing to win for the first time around Al Rayyan Park when the Deborah Amanda Clare Mountain trained filly landed the T/B PEARL (THOROUGHBRED (Fillies & Mares) (Class 2)) on turf on Thursday. Second in the Oaks in December, the 4yo was well held in the Yasmeen Cup earlier this month. However the bay filly made good use of an inside start from Gate 3 in the 15 strong field, eventually forcing a gap on the competition under Ivan Rossi. At the post, she won by a length and a quarter, beating Alberto Sanna ridden MAHAARAT (Dubawi x Ashaaqah), trained by Wasim Al Sahn for owner Layla Sophia Kalach. The runner up finish was Mahaarat’s best finish in Qatar. Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s FESTIVE (Literato x Path Of Life), trained by Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi, was third under Ronan Thomas.

Al Wasmiyah Farm’s PERFECT EMPIRE (Holy Roman Emperor x Pink Tequila) bagged his third victory this season when Soufiane Saadi rode the 4yo to a close win in the T/B CLASSIC RACE (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 2) 4 Year Olds ONLY). The Gassim Ghazali trained colt had impressed in the Qatar Derby (Gr 1) with a fourth place finish, after two solid wins before that. On Thursday, in the 2000m run on turf, Saadi had his mount track early leaders Hayzum and Mount Fuji. Coming on to the home straight, Perfect Empire went through a gap between the leaders to take the advantage 100m out even as Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s KING PACHA (Acclamation x Regina Mundi) joined the pursuit under Jason Watson. Perfect Empire however won the affair by three quarters of a length, with Zuhair Mohsen trained King Pacha in second. Michael Forest ridden HAYZUM (Anodin x Sheema), trained by Georges Mikhalides for Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Bin Hamad Al Attiya, stayed on for third.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s OFF HE GOES (Casino Prince x Perfectly Stunning) won the KHOR AL ADAID CUP (QA Gr3) (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 1) 4 Year Olds & Older) for the second straight year. Tomas Lukasek in the saddle, the Julian Colin Smart trained gelding stayed on the heels of stablemate Money Multiplier, ridden by JP Guillambert, for the bulk of the 2800m race before taking the initiative coming off the final bend. Umm Qarn’s DUKE OF DUNDEE (Duke of Marmalade x Santa Louisia) too upped the pace under Ronan Thomas on the home straight and gave chase but Off He Goes kept his lead intact winning by three lengths. In the process, the 7yo gelding completed a hattrick, having won last month and Khor Al Adaid Cup in January last year. Faleh Bughanaim guided Hamad Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani’s OTWO (Medaglia D’Oro x Vacare) to third.

Al Bida Racing’s JABALALY (Moohajim x Bahati) improved his strike rate this season when he bagged the AL AREEQ CUP (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 2)) in a blanket finish on Thursday. After missing out on a 1700m handicap on dirt in November, the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki trained gelding had won a miler around the far bend on turf in December under Ronan Thomas, who was back in the saddle for the mile long feature. Jabalaly stayed on the rails coming out of Gate 2 before taking a slight lead in the final furlong. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s MARKHOR (Frankel x Vorda) and AL SHAMAN (War Front x Communique) both gave chase under Soufiane Saadi and Tomas Lukasek respectively in the closing stages of the race, but perhaps left it for too late as they had to settle for second and third respectively. It was Jabalaly’s third win in four starts this season.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s EBRAZ (Amer x Massamarie) started the PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS on Thursday as the favourite and he stayed true to the status with a fine win in the 1850m race. Helmed by Tomas Lukasek for trainer Julian Colin Smart, the 8yo chased the leader Jabalah, ridden by Soufiane Saadi, down on the home straight, taking the advantage a 100m out to win for the second time in Qatar this season.

Patrice Alexander Nicolet’s BARRA (Munjiz x Daniah) had not finished outside the frame this season so far, including a conditions victory over seven furlongs last month. In the the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN CONDITIONS, the Alban Elie De Mieulle trained 8yo was partnered by Rashid Ali Al Marri for the first time and two put up a fantastic show as they bagged the six furlogn sprint with five lengths and three quarters to spare. It was Barra’s sixth career win.

Mohammed Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Attiya’s AJS AL MOHEEB (Amer x Gabie De Carrere) had a bunch of promising results last few outings but a trip to the winner’s circle had been elusive since December 2019 and that changed on Thursday. The Gassim Ghazali trained gelding won the LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (85 & below) in a thrilling finish, as Casamento rode his second straight winner of the day. The 8yo edged out Rashid Ali Al Marri ridden Shaweesh by a head at the post for his fourth career win.

Jassem Mohammed Al Badi’s QATAR GOLD (Atlantic Air x Thurayya) completed a hattrick of victories with a sprint victory under Marco Casamento on Thursday. Gassim Ghazali trained 5yo had never done six furlongs on turf but lined up in Gate 2 for the LOCAL THOROUGHBRED PLATE. With Casamento riding the bay horse to victory the last two times, the combination was there, and eventually even the performance was as Qatar Gold went past the post a length ahead of the rest of the competition.

Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s BOTTOM BAY (Oasis Dream x Coconut Kreek) registered his first victory in Qatar on Thursday when the gelding landed the meeting opener at Al Rayyan Park. The Zuhair Mohsen saddled 4yo had started his time in Qatar with a C&D in the Derby last month, and was well beaten. But the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) (70-90) proved much more up his alley as the gelding landed the 2000m race in a thrilling finish by a head under Michael Forest.
